my Dad’s toolbox
My Grandfather gave my Dad this toolbox when he became a machinist in the mid 1950’s, complete with his initials on it. What a beautiful gift. I can only imagine how proud my Grandfather was of my Dad. I believe becoming a journeyman machinist takes 4 years; he did it in 2 1/2 or 3 years. He never told me that but one of his friends did I think it was. He wasn’t a machinist for long as he was promoted very quickly.
My Dad is now 90 years old and his health has declined dramatically as of late, which is to be expected. We have always been close, one of my first memories of my Dad is him teaching me to fly fish when we lived in the Northwest Territories of Canada when I was about 4 or 5. Anyway, my Dad gave this toolbox to me recently on a trip back to the Kootenays to visit him in October.
